The boyfriend jean started to show up on the fashion scene toward the end of 2008. But I have a feeling they will continue to popular through spring 2009. Many celebrities, such as Katie Holmes, Selma Blair and Rachel Bilson, have been seen wearing boyfriend fit jeans. While designers like Paige Premium Denim and Current/Elliot seem to be the choice of these stars, they can cost close to $200.
If this is out of your price range or you simply do not spend that much on trend pieces, there is still hope. Retailers like Express, Ann Taylor Loft and Victoria’s Secret are selling these jeans for under $100. For even less dough, Delia’s, Alloy, American Eagle and JCPenney also have the boyfriend jean.

Wash: Boyfriend jeans are available in several washes. The main consideration with the wash you choose should be what is most flattering on you. Dark wash jeans are the most universally flattering, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to pull off a lighter pair. Express has boyfriend jeans in light and dark washes.
Wear & Tear: The boyfriend jean has varied levels of wear and tear available. The decision here is mostly a matter of taste. In my opinion, the older they look the better.
Cuffs: Although you can wear them without, these jeans are generally worn with cuffs. As opposed to a neat, folded cuff, the cuff of the boyfriend jean is usually rough and rolled. The cuff is usually done so it hits a little above the ankle.

The biggest issue for me when following the latest trends is what to wear with them. I frequently end up with a new article of clothing that sits in my closet for months because I have nothing to wear with it. Belts: A belt is a great way to add style to a boyfriend jean and draw attention to your midsection (assuming you want that). Katie Holmes wore a light brown distressed leather belt with her boyfriend jeans.

Shoes: The most flattering shoes to wear with this outfit will be heels. They will help balance the masculinity of the jeans and also counteract the shortening effect of wearing a cuff on your jeans. That isn’t to say you can’t wear flats, like a simple ballet flat or low top Chuck Taylors.
