Nicole Richie launched her maternity line this summer, which further proves that you don’t have to lose your style merely because you’re pregnant. Although the clothes are not outrageously priced, not all of us have even that kind of budget for maternity clothes. That doesn’t mean you don’t have options! I’ve taken a few items from Nicole Richie’s “a pea in the pod” maternity line and found some low budget alternatives that’ll keep you cute through your pregnancy.

To make the most of your wardrobe, go for pieces that you can mix and match and use for multiple purposes. Items like maxi dresses, trousers and dressy tops can be used in a variety of ways for a variety of occasions. Check out a couple budget friendly options for all of these pieces compared to a selection from a a pea in the pod, Nicole Richie’s line.

a pea in the pod has a few cute maxi dresses. One of those is shown below at priced at $148. But Target also has come great options, like the black maxi for $42.99 with thick supportive straps. Gap has an adorable brown paisley maxi on sale for $59.99 (shown below) or get a muted version of the paisley print in blue for only $34.99.

For a cute top to go out in, a pea in the pod has an abundance including the dark blue one shown below for $78. Khols has a lot of adorable tops for fantastic prices, like this pleated top in berry (below) and in black on sale for $18. Even stores like Nordstrom & Gap, which tend to cost a bit more, have great options if you keep an eye on their sale section. The top below is also available in white and on sale for only $16.99 at Gap.

Trousers worn with a t-shirt can be a casual option. With a dressy top, they are perfect for work or going out. A pea in the pod has a pair in dark gray plaid for $68. Motherhood Maternity has a lot of reasonably priced maternity clothes, including the tweed pair below for $34.98. The last pair is from Old Navy and has an adjustable waistband. They are twill and available in the gray (below) as well as khaki and black.

Neon and brights may not be for everyone, but there are a variety of ways to embrace this trend. Fergie, Miley Cyrus and Kristen Stewart have done it with their shoes, Rihanna, Brittany Spears and Angelina Jolie with their dresses and Eva Longoria Parker with her tops. Urban Outfitters

Revolve Clothing is selling a ruffled, bright yellow dress for $140. Or go for a red strapless at Fred Flare for $65 as seen on Lauren Conrad. Red isn’t color? It is also available in bright yellow and hot pink! Try a belted number in purple from Saks Fifth Avenue on sale for $125.90. These are great for accenting a small waist.

Get your neon on with a brightly colored top. A silk magenta blouse can be worn in or out of the office and is on sale at Banana Republic for only $24.99. Or take baby steps toward bright colors with a top by Michael Kors at Macy’s for $69.50. Express has a ruched button down shown below in pure green, also in hot stuff (pink), for $39.50.

A great way to use neon is in your footwear. It take your “little black dress” to another level or add a little extra to a simple jeans and t-shirt. Go for some neon flats from Forever 21 for $18.80 in four fun colors. Jeffrey Cambell’s Trudy Pump is a multi-colored heel in bright colors available for $109.95.Don’t own a pair of Chuck Taylors or can’t own enough? Get them in neon green or orange both available at Tilly’s for $39.99. More sizes available in Orange and Pink Chuck Taylors at Piperlime for $45.

Yet another way to try out the neon and brights trend is with your bags, accessories or tights. Laura Matthews Designs created a patent clutch in lime green, featured here, and yellow on sale for $130 at Endless. Three colors of neon tights are only $4.99 from Charlotte Russe, including the fuschia shown below. Get a bright yellow bangle from Target for $25.99, also available in turquoise, green and orange.
